March 2006
Wednesday March 22nd and it's time for a jolly boys
sail.
Myself and Steve Birch on Blue Moonlight due to meet
Super Anne.
Super Anne had spent the Tuesday night in Newport,
the plan had been to get together in Yarmouth.
However, a forecast of bad weather and we decided to
go up the river to Newport ourselves. Oddly the
forecast F8's never arrived and instead we had a nice
Easterly 3/4 so we had the genny out as we made for Cowes and
continued up river.
Thursday and we had the morning to do some jobs whilst
we waited for the early afternoon tide.
We were away by 1400 with more steady easterly wind
and again the Genny for a nice steady run to Yarmouth.
With the tide pushing us onwards we made good time
arriving around 1800 and just edging around the pier head and
in.
The new connected pontoons were under construction
and we decided to use Hayles pontoons and thus were able to
have some heat. Thursday night saw a warm front pass
over and as predicted by weather guru Steve the wind veered to
the South West.
Ideal for our return to Ryde. Starboard tack all the
way and time to anchor for lunch in Osborne Bay.
Main lesson of the trip.... be careful when an accompanying
boat ties up beside you at anchor. A slight mast collision and
I need a new vane
on my wind instrument.
