Winter Progress.

With her safely at her berth i am continuing the work as and when I can.

The run up to Christmas is a busy time for me at work and at home so time is in short supply!

Anyway. The first job has been to beef up security. But I won't go in to all the detail!!

Next has been the electrics. On purchase she had the "original" electrics and I felt they were in a poor state and inadequate.

So after some research and a smooth sales pitch from Merlin equipment I have started to install a slightly modified version of their intermediate kit.

This gives me twin battery banks and a VSR controlling the charging. Good quality bus bars etc and a switch panel with room for growth.

I have installed the isolators and VSR at the head of the starboard quarter berth and the panel is above the Port berth.

I had hoped to house the panel in a teak housing but cost was prohibitive... may be in the future. But in fact it doesn't look too bad in it's plastic box...the front of which hinges down. Although the perspective on the photo makes it look odd.

Next .I will make a cover to hide the back of the instruments and in which to mount other items and use various teak mouldings (thanks B&Q) to hide the cabling.

Christmas 2004 and New Year 2005

Popped down to check on her and have a day away from the festivities only to find large amounts of diesel in the bilges.

Unfortunately due to a tiny pin hole in the fuel tank.

Once I'd siphoned out all the diesel from bilges and tank I removed the tank only to find the aft end to be very very rusty.

I then tracked down a tiny pin hole after filling the tank with water.

Hey ho!!!

Anyway bilges were cleaned out the once and will get another scrubbing next week. Ah, the smell of diesel.

More wiring ..... it seems to take ages running stuff. But I'm getting there.

The instruments are working, rejoining the wind instument cable, via a din plug/socket was a bit fiddly but it's working.

Also fixed up some teak fittings to help tidy up.

The stove is ready for fitting and I've obtained a licence from C&E to buy Industrial meths which I hope will

be a good option for smell free safe cooking.

Also I cleaned off more of the glue previously used to stick plastic tiles to the locker and heads area.

Finally the new tank is ready and collected.

Here's a before and after.
